Join Our Team as a Composites Process Design Engineer!

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact in the renewable energy sector? We’re seeking a passionate and forward-thinking professional to take the lead and accelerate the development of our wind turbine blade manufacturing technology. This role is all about collaboration, creativity and problem-solving!

Who we are

DFM Blades is a young and ambitious startup (founded in 2024) transforming how wind turbine blades are designed and manufactured. Today, blade manufacturability is often an afterthought, resulting in complex and slow builds that rely heavily on craftsmanship. This is prone to mistakes leading to defects and consequently costly, time-consuming repairs. Our mission is to develop novel blade design and manufacturing processes that shifts blade production from craftsmanship to assembly. By rethinking how blades are built, we aim to make manufacturing faster, more consistent, and far more scalable.

What You’ll Do

Develop innovative Design for Manufacture solutions for blades:

  • Develop new design for manufacture concepts to enhance DFM Blades’ innovative technology.
  • Organise rapid prototyping in the workshop to verify concepts (‘fail fast approach’) and work closely with the technicians.
  • Identify and document potential failure modes and Critical to Quality requirements.
  • Define and document optimised process parameters to support repeatability and high-quality output.

Scale-Up & Industrialisation:

  • Support the transition of R&D concepts into scalable production processes.
  • Create work instructions, SOP’s, and process flow documentation.
  • Collaborate on the design of tooling and equipment required for production.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Develop quality controls and inspection criteria.
  • Ensure processes meet internal and external standards.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance in all process activities.

Cross-functional collaboration:

  • Work closely with design and production team to ensure manufacturability of new design elements.
  • Work closely together with external experts (customers, consultants, institutes, universities).

Who You Are:

  • An innovative and practical engineer with strong hands-on experience in composite manufacturing and a thorough understanding of composite materials, resin systems, curing cycles, tooling and structural design.
  • A seasoned composites professional with at least a Beng and 5 years of experience in composite design and manufacturing, aerospace or marine engineering, or a related field. Experience in wind energy is a plus but not essential.
  • A problem solver with demonstrated experience identifying and mitigating process risks using tools such as PFMEA and creating Process Verification Plans.
  • Process‑driven and analytical, with experience in process definition & control, production troubleshooting, and design for manufacture (DfM) in composites.
  • Experiment‑minded, able to design trials, analyse data and translate findings into practical improvements that enhance reliability, quality or manufacturability.
  • Self‑motivated and proactive, bringing a hands-on, can‑do mentality and the drive to take initiative in a fast-moving development environment.
  • A strong communicator and collaborator supported by clear documentation skills including storyboards and hand sketches.
  • Able to travel to visit suppliers, partners and customers.
